How to prepare Cacao

Proportions:

  • Everyday: 10-30 grams
  • Ceremonial: 30-50 grams
  • Recommended single serving in Guatemala: 28-42 grams

The less cacao, the less liquid:

  • 10-30 grams of cacao – for 200-250 ml of liquid
  • 30-50 grams – approx. 250-300 ml of liquid

Essential ingredients:

  • Cacao – one of the healthiest plants in the world, containing its valuable fats – cacao butter, no need to add anything else.
  • Water is sufficient or plant-based milk for flavor (almond, rice, coconut, oat), or even rose water or coconut water.
  • Optional spices and sweeteners: cardamom, cinnamon, chili, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, salt, honey, maple syrup, agave syrup, dates, peanut butter

Step by step, our recommendation:

  1. Measure the appropriate amount of cacao and crush, chop, or grate it
  2. Heat the water (to 60-70 degrees, you can also boil or prepare cacao in a cooler version)
  3. Combine cacao with water/milk in a vessel, blender cup, or pot
  4. Add spices and sweeteners or leave plain
  5. Stir until completely dissolved, use a stirrer or blend everything to a smooth consistency

Stop, celebrate the moment:

  • Preparing cacao is a time to stop and do it as you like.
  • Do it with respect for the moment, for yourself, and for the plant, to create an atmosphere.
  • You can create an atmosphere, light incense, a candle or play music.
  • Sip cacao, savoring every sip, discovering hidden flavor notes and stories.
  • Have an intention and be with yourself, in meditation, creativity, a circle, on a walk, training, with others.

Be careful:

  • you are allergic to cacao
  • you are taking psychotropic drugs
  • you are taking blood pressure medication
  • you have heart problems
  • you have a kidney stone
  • be careful during pregnancy
  • keep calm

The proportion depends on the individual caloric needs, food preferences and health of each person. You can also add cacao, e.g. to smoothies, muesli or oatmeal.

ENJOY YOUR CACAO!
